Singer and songwriter Jeff Rixx definitely didn't arrive as a recording artist by taking the direct route. While pursuing other interests,  Jeff Rixx participated in music on the side for years, playing bar gigs and generally just playing and writing for the love of music. Getting around to recording his numerous compositions and releasing them to the world has taken a bit of time.

Born in Prince George, British Columbia, Rixx has moved frequently around the country and the world. Primarily raised in Toronto, it was during this time a transformational period came about after experiencing mesmerizing live performances by Santana, Neil Young, Stevie Wonder, the Allman Brothers, Van Morrison, Blue Rodeo, and one particularly memorable Grateful Dead concert. Around then, a decision was made to pick up the guitar one more time…but this time, with a commitment to sticking with it.

Jeff Rixx has family roots in the Ontario towns of Huntsville and Goderich, and has lived in the music hubs of Halifax and Winnipeg. It was in Halifax where Rixx absorbed a steady diet of alternative rock, and frequent doses of Maritime infused Celtic music – sounds that can be heard creeping into his compositions. Also, while minoring in music at Dalhousie University, he studied classical guitar and lute under Carol van Feggelen, a former pupil of Andrés Segovia.

Rixx escaped the cozy confines of Canada, travelling in Asia for nearly a year. After retuning home from this life changing experience, he took a job on a film crew in Winnipeg, only to return to Asia where he worked as an English teacher in Jeonju, South Korea. There, he joined a classic rock band as a lead guitarist. Rixx returned to Canada, taking a position with a political party in Toronto before deciding to return to his studies. Within a couple of years Jeff was again on the road, this time to Rotterdam as an international student. It was there he had the unique experience of performing one of his compositions for a final examination in environment studies. Within two years of graduation, Rixx was living in Rome, making a go of it as a contractor with the United Nations, while picking up whatever music gigs he could around the Eternal City.

Rixx eventually found his way to Ottawa where he has settled for a number of years and become more active in the local music scene while also pursuing professional public service interests.

The isolation experienced in recent years drove Jeff to finally get down to recording some of his songs. With this, the About Time project was born. Jeff teamed up with local painter Arthur II, who created album art incorporating images from the life of Rixx,  and images directly related to the songs that make up the album. Ottawa musicians Chris McGuire (piano, organ) and Chris Breitner (bass, double bass) contributed on tracks, as did Damiano Della Torre from Bologna, Italy (accordion), and a fiddler from Bozeman, Montana who has chosen to go unnamed. Ottawa musician and producer Sean McGee brought it all together on the mixing and mastering side of the equation while also adding musical contributions along the way.
